1995: The Surprise That Shook the World

When McLaren arrived at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 1995, few predicted that a lightly modified road car, the F1 GTR, would walk away with outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It was an audacious move, entering a machine designed not as a purebred prototype, but as a road-going supercar adapted for endurance racing. Yet the result was emphatic: first place overall, backed by third, fourth and fifth, against a field of established endurance giants.

This was not a win born of brute force or racing tradition. It was a triumph of ingenuity, of daring and of an uncompromising commitment to doing things differently. McLaren's Le Mans win instantly entered the annals of motorsport history… not simply as a race result, but as a defining moment when a new name challenged the old guard and emerged as a champion.

2025: Celebrating the Legacy

Today, we celebrate three decades since that extraordinary victory.

The 750S Le Mans Special Edition, unveiled this year, is not just a tribute but a tangible embodiment of that historic moment. The first time a 750S has been offered with the MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK), itself inspired by the F1 GTR. It channels the spirit of endurance racing into the most exhilarating road car of its generation.

Every design cue, every aerodynamic flourish, every tailored material whispers of Le Mans. Not as nostalgia, but as a living pulse. It reminds us that McLaren’s endurance triumph was not an isolated flash of brilliance, but the beginning of a narrative that still shapes our engineering today.

2027 and Beyond: The Challenger Spirit – Built to Endure

With McLaren's formal announcement of entry into the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), we will once again compete at the highest level of endurance racing.

The reveal of our Le Mans Daytona Hybrid (LMDh) car is more than just a racing commitment. It reaffirms that McLaren's DNA is wired for competition, for innovation, for pushing beyond the margins of what is known. It is this challenger mindset, rekindled on the grandest stage, which inspired our Automotive and Racing divisions to collaborate on a customer track derivative codenamed Project: Endurance.

Project: Endurance will offer customers the opportunity to own, experience and master the exhilaration of driving an authentic LMDh Hypercar, whilst witnessing history in the making as the McLaren Endurance Racing team prepares to compete in 2027.

Champions and Challengers, Inseparably Bound

As we mark 30 years since our historic Le Mans victory, we do so not merely as custodians of a great legacy, but as architects of the next chapter. We are both champions, honouring a victory that reshaped the racing world, and challengers, unwilling to stand still, hungry to prove once again that the extraordinary is always just beyond the horizon.

Because at McLaren, achievement is not a finish line: It is the starting point for what comes next.
