Transferring innovations from McLaren’s five decades of motorsport success direct to the road, the McLaren 650S Can-Am is a supercar like no other.
The 650S Can-Am applies a wealth of racing technology to create an exhilarating driving experience. You sit cocooned in a lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell, the twin turbo V8 engine mounted behind you for perfect balance and scintillating dynamics. The 650S Can-Am is the perfect way to honour McLaren’s fearsomely fast Can-Am racers.
Light, strong and incredibly stiff, the carbon fibre MonoCell is at the heart of the McLaren 650S Can-Am.
Bruce McLaren strove to minimise weight and maximise power in designing the McLaren Can-Am cars of 50 years ago. Today, the materials have changed but the philosophy and ethos remain the same – a lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell is key to the 650S Can-Am’s exceptional performance. Weighing just 75kg, the MonoCell contributes to a stunning power-to-weight ratio of 485PS (478bhp) per tonne, enough to accelerate the 650S Can-Am from zero to 100kph (62mph) in just 3.0 seconds.
Exceptionally strong and stiff, the MonoCell provides outstanding crash protection for occupants, which means there is no loss of rigidity for this retractable-hardtop supercar compared with McLaren Super Series coupé models. Because no additional bracing is required to stiffen the Spider body, unlike rivals manufactured from steel or aluminium, the weight gained is kept to a minimum – under 40kg.
Thanks to dependably stiff foundations that form the perfect basis for suspension tuning, the MonoCell also contributes to the 650S Can-Am’s ability to both corner like a race car, and glide over bumpy roads with absolute compliance.
The retractable hardtop combines the refinement of a coupé with the exhilaration of a Spider.

A retractable hardtop allows you to choose between the insulation and security of a coupé, or the immersive open-air thrills of a Spider. Simply press a button and the roof raises or lowers in under 17 seconds at speeds of up to 40kph (24mph) for maximum convenience.
If you want to hear more of the McLaren 650S Can-Am’s 3.8-litre V8 engine without lowering the roof, the heated rear screen can be electrically lowered – the result is more driver engagement, yet no increase in wind buffeting.
The 650S Can-Am’s retractable hardtop is uniquely manufactured in carbon fibre. The lightweight material means the Spider weighs under 40kg more than a 650S Coupé, despite its electrically operated roof mechanism. It really is the best of both worlds.
The mid-mounted M383T engine lies at the heart of the 650S Can-Am. Featuring twin turbocharging technology and a 3.8-litre displacement, the V8 engine produces a staggering 650PS (641bhp) and 678Nm (500lb ft) for a 0-100kph (0-62mph) time of just 3.0 seconds and a 329kph (204mph) top speed. Not only is this engine incredibly potent, but it’s also highly efficient, with a combined 24.2mpg and CO2 emissions of just 275g/km.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, offering a choice of automatic, semi-automatic or entirely manual control. In any mode, the driver is able to make gear changes on the steering-wheel-mounted rocker-shift controls. Shifts automatically adapt to your driving: super-fast engagement when you’re chasing a lap time, silky smooth when you’re cruising through town.
Located in easy reach on the centre console, the Active Dynamics Panel allows you to adapt Powertrain and Handling modes to your ideal preferences. Choose from Normal, Sport and Track. Normal is perfect for daily use, and balances comfort and refinement with exceptional performance. In Sport, the McLaren 650S Can-Am becomes even more focused, while Track delivers the purest, most extreme driving experience, without compromise.
Proactive Chassis Control (PCC) is the ultimate no-compromises solution, and the most radical rethink of supercar suspension design in half a century. PCC allows you to choose a range of settings, from the most supple suspension settings for unparalleled comfort, to the most performance focussed for maximum agility. The result is a chassis that can be seamlessly adapted to the road, the racetrack, or your mood.
Furthermore, the 650S Can-Am features Brake Steer, a McLaren innovation banned from Formula 1™ for offering too great a competitive advantage. Brake Steer manages traction, minimises mid-corner understeer and controls oversteer during high-speed cornering. It achieves this by subtly applying a small braking force to the inside rear wheel through corners. Undetectable by the driver, Brake Steer is key to the exceptional performance of the 650S Can-Am.
