The essence of a 600LT is more though than its physical silhouette. More even than reduced weight and increased power.
The absolute remit of the 600LT is to engage and excite drivers to the highest levels imaginable. It exists to heighten engagement. To deliver unprecedented feedback. It is for drivers who want to push themselves to the edge of their limits… and beyond.
To drive a 600LT is to understand this feeling.
Absolute driver engagement is the ethos at the heart of the 600LT. Just as it was with the 675LT. And both these LT models took inspiration from the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ race car. Key on the 600LT are the lightweight forged aluminium double wishes components from the McLaren 720S – just as the 675LT utilised suspension derived from the McLaren P1™. They work together with a 10mm wider front track, an 8mm reduction in ride height, and stiffer spring rates and thicker anti-roll bars. Thus the 600LT maintains the renowned agility and nimbleness of the Sports Series, but has been imbued with the heightened track-focused abilities, uncompromising raw thrills and pure driver connection of an LT.
The McLaren 600LT is the most powerful Sports Series ever created, producing 600PS and 620Nm from its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8. The engine features dry sump lubrication that allows for higher cornering speeds without oil surge. A race-inspired flat-plane crankshaft enables the V8 to be mounted as low as possible to improve agility and handling. The powertrain breathes more freely due to enlarged side air intakes and reduced back pressure from an exhaust system that is even shorter and more extreme than that of the McLaren Senna. The result is an incredible engine that responds instantly to your every input.
Delivering power from the mid-mounted engine to the rear wheels is a dual-clutch, seamless-shift seven-speed gearbox. Using technology developed for the 675LT – and adopted from Formula 1 – the 600LT uses Ignition Cut in Sport mode. A momentary cut of the ignition spark during a gearshift creates a faster change. And each upshift or downshift is accompanied by the same dramatic aural ‘crack’ first experienced on the 675LT. In Track mode optimal gearshift performance is achieved through our Inertia Push technology. The 600LT-specific launch-control function delivers astonishing straight-line performance: acceleration from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) is delivered in just 2.9 seconds.
A crucial element in the enhanced dynamic abilities of the McLaren 600LT has been the development of a bespoke high-performance tyre. One created in conjunction with technical partner Pirelli. The track-focused P ZERO™ Trofeo R has never been available on the Sport Series before, and delivers improved grip levels and significantly higher cornering speeds. Utilising the bespoke Pirelli tyres to maximum effect, our engineers have tuned the hydraulic steering to deliver sharper on-centre responses, faster turn-in and an even more direct connection between you and the road or race track you’re on. As with the McLaren 675LT, the immediacy of the 600LT’s steering matches the instant response of the chassis and intensity of the powertrain.
