One-off versions of the McLaren P1™ and MSO 650S Spider will go on show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Two bespoke, one-off cars, designed by McLaren Special Operations, will go on show at this month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.  A McLaren P1™, commissioned by a North American customer, and a one-off MSO 650S Spider, designed in collaboration with McLaren Newport Beach and McLaren Automotive Design Director Frank Stephenson, were both personalised by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division.
MSO was established in 2011, branching out from McLaren’s Customer Care programme. Since then, MSO has been giving owners vast freedom to make their car unique. Now, 20 per cent of the cars that roll of McLaren’s production line are personalised by MSO.

The two cars at Pebble Beach are prime examples.  The McLaren P1™ on display is full of subtle details, such as the McLaren Orange accents, which highlight the car’s contours and contrast with the Sterling Grey paint finish and gloss carbon fibre components.  The brake callipers, too, are finished in orange and mounted behind body-coloured wheels. Harking back to the famous McLaren F1 of the 1990s, the car has 24-carat-gold heatshields around the engine bay, which is used in McLaren’s current Formula 1™ cars, due to its heat resistance qualities. Inside, carbon fibre and Alcantara® trim combines with lightweight carbon-shell racing seats and four-point harnesses to create a sporty, focused cockpit.

Meanwhile, the 650S Spider on show is an example of the MSO 650S, an already exclusive car limited to 50 models, unveiled at June’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.  The car at Pebble Beach has been finished in the MSO-designed Cerulean Blue paint, which includes a heavy metallic flake, bringing out the car’s curves.

Carbon fibre detailing, with a satin finish, has been used for the front bumper, side air intakes, on the centre section of the rear bumper, and on the MSO rear diffuser.

Inside, blue stitching contrasts with the carbon-black leather upholstery on the steering wheel, dash and doors, all complemented by satin lacquered carbon fibre elements.  As an extra touch of exclusivity, the MSO 650S Spider also includes a dedication plaque signed by Frank Stephenson.

For those fortunate enough to be at Pebble Beach, the two cars provide the perfect opportunity to see the scope of MSO’s abilities. For those who can’t make it, you can find out more on
