McLaren Takata Recall

In accordance with the requirement from NHTSA, McLaren will be replacing all Passenger Side Airbags manufactured by the company Takata fitted to all MY12 through to MY17 McLaren vehicles sold into the United States. This is necessary following an investigation by NHTSA that shows that the technology used in this Airbag inflator can degrade with prolonged exposure to heat and humidity. This does not affect the Drivers Airbag. The replacement Airbag uses revised technology which does not degrade over time.

Due to the inflator degrading with time and temperature McLaren is prioritising replacement of the inflators on MY12 vehicles in Zone A* and rolling out the recall in stages compliant with NHTSA requirements to Zones A, B & C* for MY12 & MY13. The Zone is defined by the location the vehicle was originally sold into. Following on from the staggered recall issued on MY12 & MY13 vehicles, McLaren will issue a campaign on all MY14,15, 16 & 17 vehicles for the airbag to be replaced at the next visit to a McLaren Service Centre.

*Zone A - Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Zone B - Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Zone C - Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
